McCaul: Unplanned Afghanistan Withdrawal “Unmitigated Disaster of Epic Proportions,” Biden “Will Have Blood on His Hands”Blog
Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul joined “State of the Union” this morning to discuss the rapidly deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, and how President Biden’s failed leadership enabled what is happening.
“Since the decision was made in May, I think it has been an unmitigated disaster of epic proportions…this is going to be a stain on this president and this presidency. I think he is going to have blood on his hands for what they did.”
During the interview, McCaul discussed how Biden’s decision could impact the United States’ national security:
“We are going to go back, Jake, to a pre-9/11 state – a breeding ground for terrorism. You know, I hate to say this. I hope we don’t have to go back there. But it will be a threat to the homeland in a matter of time.”
McCaul also pushed back strongly on the Biden Administration’s attempts to blame former President Trump for what we are seeing now:
“Harry Truman once said the ‘buck stops here’…For President Biden to try to throw all of this on the former administration is a lack of responsibility and accountability. He owns this – absolutely one hundred percent he owns it. He made the decision. What is worse…once he made the decision, he could have done certain things. He could have planned for it. He could have had a strategy for this. Instead…there is still no strategy other than race to the airport and evacuate as many people as you can.”
