In this hearing, former senior level officials from the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Agency for International Development will assess the current geopolitical landscape, with an eye towards identifying new threats and opportunities for American leadership.  Former Ambassadors Reuben Brigety and Ryan Crocker, as well as former USAID Administrator Gayle Smith and former Director of the State Department’s Policy Planning Anne-Marie Slaughter, will reflect on their past experiences, providing committee members with a balanced perspective on charting a new course for American foreign policy.
