Over the past several years the world has witnessed a series of democratic setbacks and grave human rights abuses across Asia.  The continued repression of Uyghur and Rohingya Muslims, the attacks on individual rights in Hong Kong, an iron fisted ruler in North Korea, the jailing of journalists, and restricted Internet access are just a few examples of how the democratic trajectory in Asia is moving in the wrong direction.  This Subcommittee hearing will allow Members of Congress to engage a panel of experts on these important issues and discuss ways in which the United States can turn the tide and help support an expansion of democracy and human rights in Asia.
