Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on the death of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher:

“I am deeply saddened by the death of Baroness Margaret Thatcher, a true beacon for freedom in the United Kingdom, Europe and around the world.  The United States could not have asked for a stronger, more principled partner for President Reagan during those critical years of the Cold War.  Her leadership greatly strengthened the United States’ special relationship with the United Kingdom and was vital in the victory of freedom over Communism.  She was a towering figure in the 20th century.”
