Washington, DC – Earlier this month, House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican and Chairman of the China Task Force Michael McCaul reintroduced hisCountering Chinese Communist Party Malign Influence Act,” a measure to authorize $300 million in existing funding to counter the malign influence of the Chinese Communist Party. The Act will help ensure these resources remain available for U.S. strategic initiatives and improve the oversight of these funds to prevent mismanagement. In addition, Lead Republican McCaul introduced the “Promoting US International Leadership in 5G Act,” to ensure the U.S. takes the lead in international standards setting bodies for 5G and counter the CCP and Huawei’s efforts to take control of telecommunications. Last week, both McCaul bills were included in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s bipartisan Strategic Competition Act.  A statement from Lead Republican McCaul is below.

“I am pleased my bills to counter threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party were taken up as part of the Foreign Relations Committee’s bipartisan Strategic Competition Act and I am optimistic it will be included in future Congress-wide legislation on this challenge. The malign actions of the CCP are the defining foreign policy challenge of this generation. The U.S. needs to put forward a robust response to ensure resources are used strategically while avoiding wasteful spending. That’s just what my bills aim to do, and I’m glad to see them receive this major signal of bipartisan support.”
