Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul has released the following statement in response to the inaugural meeting of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council.

“While important progress was made at this week’s inaugural meeting of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council, there is much more work to be done, especially when it comes to even greater coordination and convergence on export control, investment screening and semiconductor incentive policies. Given the threats posed by the CCP, the transatlantic community must take advantage of this meeting’s momentum and use this forum to work toward concrete policies to ensure trade and emerging technologies reflect our shared values.

“I was disappointed transatlantic data flows were kept off the summit’s agenda, as a continued impasse could threaten economic growth and digital innovation. I urge the Biden Administration to prioritize forging a long-term agreement with the EU on this issue.”
