Washington, DC – House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul joined a bipartisan panel at the Sedona Forum 2021 with the McCain Institute to discuss Iran. The panel was moderated by Brian Hook, former U.S. Special Representative for Iran, and included General John Allen USMC (Ret.), former Commander of United States Central Command, and U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT).

Lead Republican McCaul told the panel:

“You don’t negotiate out of fear. As they talk about it, I think when the diplomats fail we go to war and I think nobody wants that. There is bipartisan support for a non-nuclear Iran, but I do think you have to negotiate at a position of strength and not weakness.”

“The previous administration really empowered this administration with the tools it needs to negotiate a better deal. And that is the crippling sanctions, $70 billion in oil revenues, and not to mention the sanctions that were put on the banks and the IRGC which were important. All that gives this administration a lot of tools in the toolbox to negotiate a better deal regardless of how long it takes.”
