Washington, DC – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Chairman Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY) have released the following statement ahead of this weekend’s elections in Georgia.

“Looking toward this weekend’s municipal elections, we remain troubled by Georgia’s continued democratic backsliding, political polarization, and reports of pre-election violence. If Georgia is to meet the democratic standards of NATO, the OSCE, and the EU necessary to enable its Euro-Atlantic future, all parties involved in this month’s elections must conduct themselves in a manner consistent with democratic values. We will be watching the elections closely. We look forward to the OSCE’s election observation mission’s findings and remain committed to participatory democracy in Georgia beyond election day.”
