McCaul on Taliban Refusing Education to Women and Girls
Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul has released the following statement following the Taliban’s decision to not allow Afghan women and girls to return to school beyond sixth grade.
“The Taliban once again revealed their true colors by continuing to prohibit girls above sixth grade from going to school, despite their commitment to end this barbaric practice. The images of heartbroken girls being turned away from classrooms seen by the world are deeply upsetting and in direct contradiction to the Taliban’s commitments. The Biden administration and international community must hold the Taliban accountable for their actions – we cannot enable their blatant violations of human rights. This tragic policy underscores the calamitous fallout that has come from the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in August.”
