McCaul on the Supreme Court Ruling Permitting the Biden Administration to Terminate the Migrant Protection Protocols

Washington, DC – Following the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States permitting the Biden administration to terminate the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), also known as the “Remain in Mexico” policy, House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul issued the following statement:

“While I am disappointed with the decision, I respect the Supreme Court’s independence and authority. To be clear, the question is no longer whether the Biden administration has the authority to end MPP, but whether it should. Historic levels of border encounters that are only getting worse, coupled with surging U.S. overdose deaths prove the dire need for the Biden administration to urgently secure the southwest border. President Biden must abandon reckless policies, such as rescinding MPP and lifting Title 42, which incentivize and reward illegal entry. The court noted that MPP was discretionary, so it is not too late for the Biden administration to make the proper choice and reinstate this policy if they are serious about securing our border.”
