Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after the Administration determined the Assad regime carried out a chemical weapons attack on May 19, 2019:

“I am disturbed, but sadly not surprised, that the Assad regime has once again violated international law by using chemical weapons. Assad’s barbarism has no limits. It is vital that nations do not normalize their relationships with the Assad regime or support it with reconstruction assistance. In addition, it is far past time for the Caesar Syrian Civilian Protection Act to become law to impose new sanctions on this brutal regime and its enablers, including Russia and Iran.”
