Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican and China Task Force Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) released the following statement on the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) aggression towards Taiwan. Over the last week, CCP officials have conducted unprovoked and destabilizing military actions, announced their intent to dismantle Taiwan’s democratic government, and threatened the people of Taiwan with human rights atrocities associated with the CCP’s ongoing genocide. The CCP also terminated cooperation with the United States on military deconfliction, law enforcement, and climate agreements. Members of the G7 and Australia have condemned the CCP’s military escalation.

“The CCP’s military belligerence over the last week is the clearest sign yet that Xi Jinping’s brutal dictatorship is the greatest threat to the Indo-Pacific and U.S. national security. The people of Taiwan responded to these threats exactly as they should, by welcoming members of the United States Congress, continuing their daily lives and the freedoms they enjoy, and fortifying their democracy against communist aggression. The United States will never allow CCP belligerence to roll back our critical relationship with Taiwan, and we’ll continue to stand with Taiwan to prevent a war of choice by the CCP.”
