Washington, DC – House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul has issued the following statement as the United States takes the position of Chair on the United Nations Security Council for the month of March.

“This month, the United States will have the ability to significantly shape international debates of vital importance as we hold the Presidency of the U.N. Security Council. I urge our newly instated U.N. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield to use this opportunity to focus on key issues around the world, including combatting genocide in China, ending the conflict in Tigray, ensuring cross-border humanitarian aid is allowed into Syria, holding Iran to its nonproliferation obligations, and ensuring a robust global response to the COVID-19 pandemic. U.S. leadership is most effective when we are speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves.”
